Easy dot rangoli design #2: an 11×11 grid of dots, 81 of them coloured, with four lines of symmetry. Good for a doorstep, a Diwali corner or a school competition.
Mark an 11×11 grid of dots with chalk, about 4 to 5 cm apart for a doorstep. Then you'll fill:
Use rangoli powder, coloured rice, flower petals or diyas for the dots. The white stars look best in rice flour or chalk.
Work outwards from the centre, one square ring at a time. Every ring is the same on all four sides, so finish one side and copy it to the other three.
Put one white dot in the very centre. Everything else grows out from here.
Ring 1 is the square of 8 dots touching the centre. Place 8 dots: 4 pink and 4 marigold. Start with the middle dot of each side, in line with the centre, in pink. The four corners of this ring are marigold. Then fill in each side so it mirrors the others.
Place 16 dots: 12 pink and 4 peacock blue. Start with the middle dot of each side, in line with the centre, in peacock blue. The four corners of this ring are pink. Then fill in each side so it mirrors the others.
Place 16 red dots. Start with the middle dot of each side, in line with the centre. Then fill in each side so it mirrors the others.
