How to play

Hold to run. Your runner runs toward the owl while your finger is down, and stops the moment you let go.
- 2
Watch for the red ! It means the owl is about to turn round. Let go and freeze before it looks.
- 3
Caught moving? Back to the start. Some turns are fake-outs, and the owl looks away again. Reach the owl in the fastest time.
Questions
How is the daily race scored?
Your time from “Go!” until you reach the owl. Getting caught doesn’t add time by itself, but it sends you back to the start, so it costs a lot. Everyone gets the same owl each day, with the same turns and fake-outs, so you can compare times with friends.
How long do I have after the red “!”?
About half a second. The ! comes up, the owl’s head swings round, and once it is looking right at you, any movement counts. Let go as soon as you see the !.
What is a fake-out?
Sometimes the owl starts to turn and then looks away again. A fake-out looks exactly like a real turn at the start, so you can freeze to be safe, or keep running and hope.
How does the live room work?
One person creates a room and the others join with the code or the QR, each on their own phone. Everyone races at the same time, with one owl for the whole room, and you see every friend run, freeze and get sent back. The first three to reach the owl score 3, 2 and 1 points, and the host picks how many races to play.
Is this like red light, green light?
Yes. It’s the playground game that has a different name in every country: red light green light, statues, grandmother’s footsteps, “What’s the time, Mr Wolf?”. Here an owl does the turning.
