How to play Last Over

Last Over is a daily cricket game. You are batting at the death with a target to chase. Each ball, you see the delivery, pick a shot and decide how much risk to take.

The rules

  1. Read the chase. The scoreboard shows the target, the balls left and the wickets in hand, for example need 22 off 9 balls with 2 wickets.
  2. Read the ball. Before each ball you see where it pitched: yorker, full, good length, short or wide of off.
  3. Pick a shot. Choose from five shots. Each one shows its runs and how risky it is against that ball.
  4. Win the chase. Reach the target before you run out of balls or wickets.

The five shots

ShotRuns
Defend
Dead bat. Never out.
0
Nudge a single
Work it into a gap.
1
Drive
Along the ground for four.
4
Loft
Over the infield for six.
6
Pull
Swivel and hit it into the stands.

Big shots can be mis-hit. If you only just survive a risky drive or slog, you might get 1 or 2 instead of a boundary. A wicket costs you a batter; lose them all and the chase is over.

Risk labels

Every shot button shows its risk against the ball in front of you: Safe Some risk Risky Very risky. The same shot can be safe against one ball and very risky against another. A pull off a short ball is a good bet; a pull off a yorker usually isn't. The full numbers are in the shot selection guide.

The daily chase

Everyone gets the same chase each day: the same target, the same deliveries and the same luck. The same shot on the same ball ends the same way for everyone, so when you share your over, friends can see exactly where you took a different shot. A new chase comes out at midnight your time. Practice mode gives random chases and doesn't touch your streak.

Questions

Is Last Over free?

Yes. It runs in your browser on phone or computer, with no app or sign-up.

Can I win every chase?

No. Even perfect shot choice wins an average daily chase about 75% of the time, because some deliveries just beat the bat.

Why did I get out on a 'Safe' shot?

Safe means a small chance, not none. A nudged single off a yorker, for example, is out 1 time in 10. Only Defend is never out.
