How to play Splitword
- Four words that share a theme have each been cut into three pieces.
- All twelve pieces are shuffled together. Tap three pieces in order to build a word.
- If it's one of the four, it locks in with its own colour. If not, it counts as a mistake and the pieces go back.
- Rebuild all four words with as few mistakes as you can.
For example, if the theme is Cricket, these pieces make WICKET:
Tips
- Read the theme first. Think of five or six words that fit it before you tap anything.
- Find the starts. Some pieces can only begin a word (like "THU" or "SPA"). Some can only end one (like "NGS"). Sort them in your head.
- Watch out for decoys. Pieces like "ER" or "ON" fit many words, so leave them until last.
- Use Shuffle. A new layout often makes a word jump out.
Daily puzzle and practice
The daily puzzle has a theme and is the same for everyone on the same date. Practice mixes four random words from the archive with no theme, so it's a little harder.
Questions
Can two pieces be the same?
Yes. Short pieces like "ER" sometimes appear twice. They're interchangeable, so either one works.
Is there a limit on mistakes?
No. You can always finish. Mistakes and hints show up in your shared result.
When does the next puzzle come out?
At midnight in your own time zone.
Do I need an account?
No. Your streak and stats are saved on your device.
