How to play Vakra
- Look at the dark curve. Which basic graph is it built from? Pick it: x², x³, |x|, √x, 1/x, eˣ, ln x, sin x or cos x.
- Set a, h and k in y = a·f(x − h) + k.
- Press Plot it. Your curve is drawn on top as a dashed line, and each part turns green when it's right. Arrows tell you which way to go.
- Match the curve in five plots or fewer.
Graph transformations in one minute
- a stretches and flips. 2x² is twice as steep as x². −x² opens downward.
- h shifts sideways, the opposite way to the sign. (x − 2)² moves right by 2, (x + 2)² moves left.
- k shifts up or down. x² + 3 sits 3 units higher.
- Tip: find a landmark first, like the vertex of a parabola, the corner of |x| or the asymptote of 1/x. It gives you h and k straight away.

Questions
Why is it a·f(x − h) + k?
That's the standard form for the four basic transformations taught in Class 11: vertical stretch, reflection, horizontal shift and vertical shift. Writing h with a minus sign means the graph moves right when h is positive.
When does a new curve come out?
Every day at midnight in your time zone. Practice gives you unlimited random curves.
