tva – daily periodic table game

Guess today's element in 6 tries. Every guess fades out the elements it can't be.

Today's element

    How to play Tatva

    1. Type any element, like Sodium or Na, or tap it on the periodic table.
    2. Each guess tells you four things: is today's atomic number higher ↑ or lower ↓, and is it in the same group, same period and same block?
    3. Elements that no longer fit fade out, so you can see what's left.
    4. After 3 misses you get the element's category, and before your last guess, its outer electrons.

The answer is always from hydrogen to radon, leaving out the lanthanides. That's the part of the periodic table you need for NEET and JEE.

Learn the periodic table by playing

Rote-learning "H He Li Be B C N O F Ne" only gets you so far. Tatva makes you think about where an element sits: its group decides its valence electrons, its period decides its number of shells, and its block tells you which orbital is filling. Those three ideas explain most periodic trends in Class 11 chemistry.

    Electronic configurations

Every element has its own page with its electronic configuration, shell-wise distribution and position in the table. Popular ones:

    Questions

What do group, period and block mean?

A group is a column (1 to 18). A period is a row (1 to 7). The block is the orbital that the last electron goes into: s, p, d or f.

    Why is lanthanum greyed out?

Lanthanum and the other lanthanides aren't used as answers, so the table shows them as one faded cell.

When does a new element come out?

Every day at midnight in your time zone. Practice mode gives you as many random elements as you like.

Do I need to sign up?

No. It runs in your browser and your streak is saved on your device.

    How to play

    1. Guess an element by typing it or tapping it on the table.
    2. Each guess is checked four ways. Green means it matches today's element: Here the answer has a higher atomic number than sodium and is in period 3, but not group 1 or the s-block.
    3. Elements that can't be the answer fade out. You have 6 guesses.
